Abstract: Chlamydia psittaci is a pathogen that can cause psittacosis in humans and animals. Patients often present with symptoms of respiratory infection, which can cause systemic disease in severe cases. People are most likely to contract Chlamydia psittaci when they come into contact with sick or infected birds, poultry and their secretions. In recent years, Chlamydia psittaci has been found in many areas of China, affecting the survival and reproduction of birds and animals, making people sick, with serious consequences. Due to the unique growth pattern of Chlamydia psittaci and its similarity to the diseases and symptoms caused by more respiratory pathogens, there are few comprehensive descriptions of its biological characteristics. Therefore, this article summarized the prevalence and distribution, etiological characteristics, genomic characteristics, detection techniques, prevention and treatment of Chlamydia psittaci, and provided basis for further research on the occurrence and development of Chlamydia psittaci.
