Abstract: Human enterovirus (HEV) can infect people and outbreak all over the world. At the same time, it can induce a variety of clinical symptoms, including fever, headache, respiratory tract infection, sore throat, and occasionally vomiting and diarrhea. Some specific serotypes can cause serious diseases, but most of the HEV infection symptoms are mild or even asymptomatic. In this review, we will summarize the research progress and current situation of reported diseases related to HEV infection (including hand foot mouth disease, acute flaccid paralysis, encephalitis/meningitis, diabetes, diarrhea, respiratory diseases, acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and acute otitis media. Further summarize the molecular epidemic characteristics and pathogenesis of HEV in different infectious diseases, and elaborate the relationship between HEV and human infectious diseases.
